(2020 Tribal EPA Region 9 Conference)
Recorded: October 14, 2020
Presenters: Sally Manning- Big Pine Paiute Tribe of the Owens Valley, L’eaux Stewart, Jacklyn Bryan
Description: California Assembly Bill 52 (Gatto, 2014) took effect five years ago. The law is a milestone because it calls for state and localagencies to consult with interested tribes on projects subject to the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). However, asmany tribes who have tried to work through a consultation process know, AB 52 may be another law intended to give voice to Indigenous concerns that does not go far enough.

The Entire Policy
In 2020, L'eaux was contacted to assist in writing the first Tribal perspectives included in a state level government report. Her 15 page report was one of 8 Tribal perspectives that discussed the impact climate change has had on California Tribes. Her report includes interviews with Tribal elders and her own knowledge of her Tribe's culture.
